Fanny Blankers-Koen Stadion


Fanny Blankers-Koen Stadion is a multi-purpose stadium in the district Berflo Es Hengelo, Netherlands. Currently, the stadium is used for athletic events, especially for the annual Fanny Blankers-Koen Games. It was originally open in 1948 and was called the Veldwijk Stadium. On June 20, 1981 the council decided ask permission from Fanny Blankers-Koen, a local athlete, to change its name. On May 2, 1982 the new name was officially unveiled in the presence of Secretary Wallis de Vries.
In the period 2004-2005, the stadium and especially the athletics track were completely renovated. This innovation is an 8-track leans around outside the stadium built with a 400 meter walk round 4-leans job. There is also a new grandstand built. Just before the 2007 edition of the FBK Games it was inaugurated also the new grandstand, with a capacity of 15,500 spectators, around the track yielded. From 19 to 22 July 2007 the stadium had held the European Youth Championships. Among other sport events, the stadium also hosts various cultural activities, exhibitions and concerts.
