Fantoft Stave Church

Hotels near Fantoft Stave Church, Bergen, Norway .

The famed Fantoft Stave Church has a rich history. A wooden church built in medieval times in approximately 1150 AD,
the Fantoft Stave Church was originally located in Fortun, Norway.

In 1883 it was moved to Fana, Bergen, Norway in small sections, by the Norwegian businessman (with German origins)
Fredrik Georg Gade.

Unfortunately the church was destroyed in an act of vandalism in 1992, prompting a reconstruction of the replica that now
stands in it’s place.

The Fantoft Stave Church stands on the former lands of Fredrik Gade and while the area is full of beautiful rich greenery,
the surrounding region has few notable eateries and hotels. However there are several hostels in close proximity.
