Located on the City of Saint Jude’s 36 acre Montgomery, Alabama campus, the Father Purcell Memorial Exceptional Children’s Center is a pediatric nursing facility, and home to nearly 60 severely disabled children requiring full-time care. With child residents from across the U.S., the facility offers exceptional services like 24 hour skilled nursing care, medical specialty consultation, physical management and rehabilitation, a residential school program, and a planned developmentally appropriate activity program. Funded by donations and gifts from across the country, the City of St. Jude was founded in 1934 by Father Harold Purcell with the mission of providing spiritual enrichment, education, health care and social services to those in need. In the center of the campus, find the St. Jude Catholic Church built in 1936, amongst other important buildings like the St. Jude Social Center (1939), the St. Jude Educational Institute (1947), the St. Jude Catholic Hospital (1951)- now St. Jude Apartments- and the Father Purcell Memorial Exceptional Children’s Center, constructed in 1958.
