Located adjacent to the famous French Quarter of New Orleans, on the downriver side, Faubourg Marigny is a neighborhood of approximately 3,000 people, and a subdivision of the Bywater District of the City. The neighborhood traces its roots to an eccentric Creole real estate magnate who developed the area in the early 19th century. After a dramatic demise, Faubourg Marigny experienced a resurgence in the late 20th century, and is now considered one of the best destinations in New Orleans for restaurants and live music.

The approximate borders of Faubourg Marigny are Esplanade Avenue and Franklin Avenue on the east and west, and Rampart Street and St. Claude Avenue on the north. The southern border of Faubourg Marigny is the Mississippi River. The neighborhood is noted for its preservation of 19th century architecture, with relatively few modern buildings.
