The Federal University of Santa Catarina (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina – UFSC) is located in Florianopolis in southern Brazil. Ranked the 4th best university in Latin America, it is noted for its engineering school and research facilities around the world.

UFSC is rooted in the Polytechnic Institute of Florianopolis founded in 1917. The institution it is today, however, was not officially created until 1960.
