Federation Square, locally known as ‘Fed Square’, is a cultural hub located in Melbourne, Australia. The square is made up of a series of buildings that house are galleries, a museum, a public broadcaster, an auditoria, an exhibition space, and bars and shops. The square is bounded by Flinders, Swanston, and Russell Streets as well as the Yarra River. The design of the square was a result of an international competition where Peter Davidson and Done Bates of Lab Architecture Studio ended up winners.

Federation Square was opened in October 2002. It is open year round and is operated by the Federation Square Pty Ltd. The open space incorporated into the design of the square has become a popular venue for rallies, cultural gatherings, celebrations, and performances. The square is known as being Victoria’s top 2 tourist attraction and brings in millions of tourists each year. Institutions located within Federation Square include The BMW Edge Amphitheater, The Australian Center for the Moving Image (ACMI), The National Design Center, The Melbourne Tourist Information Center, The Ian Potter Center, The Melbourne Television and Radio headquarters and Champions: Australian Racing Museum and Hall of Fame.
