Feijenoord Stadion

Feijenoord Stadion better known as De Kuip (the Tub), is a football stadium in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It is the home ground for Feyenoord Rotterdam football team. The promoter of the construction was Feyenoord chairman Leen van Zandvliet to whom an adjacent square is named. The stadium was designed by the architect Leendert van der Vlugt. Construction was begun in 1935, was opened on March 27, 1937. In 1934, Van Zandvliet made several trips abroad to look for other similar stadiums. The Highbury Arsenal FC impressed him.
The stadium was officially completed on July 23, 1937. Before the official opening was, however, in the pouring rain, the first game played in Feijenoord Stadium between Feyenoord and Beerschot. The second race was the one between the Netherlands and Belgium. Meanwhile, Dutch football played more than 100 times in De Kuip Stadium. Former international Frank de Boer played his 100th match at De Kuip Stadium and, interestingly, this was also the 100th game that Dutch football in stadium Feijenoord played. Feijenoord Stadium was not just a football stadium. It also provided space for other sports: speedway, gymnastics and athletics, and boxing matches.
The Feijenoord Stadium has undergone a major facelift. Thus 85% of the stadium is completely covered. To permanently enable pop concerts, the hood was not enlarged. The capacity has been reduced to 51,577 seats. The existing steel and concrete structures, bleachers, stairs, balustrades and sanitation are also overhauls and renovated. The players got better changing rooms and press rooms are extended. The business units were also introduced. 40 units were created, each 40 square meters. There were created many new rooms, each having its own name.
