The history of the park dates back to the 1930’s, when it was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, although under a different name. Until 1997 the park was referred to as the Seashore State Park. Its current title pays homage to its historical significance as the geographic location at which the Virginia Company is believed to have first landed.
