Located in West Palm Beach, Florida, is the Flagler Museum, also commonly known as Whitehall. This mansion boasts 55 rooms, Beaux Art architecture, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Henry Flagler, who had the mansion built as a wedding present for his wife Mary Lily Kenan in 1902, was one of the original founders of the company Standard Oil. Later the property would be sold to investors who constructed a 300-room addition onto the mansion, only to be saved years in the future by Jean Flagler Matthews, one of Henry and Mary’s granddaughters. Upon being saved from demolition the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum non-profit corporation was established, and the building bought and converted to a museum in 1960. The 300-room hotel has since been demolished. The Flagler Museum is still open to the public and features tours, permanent and changing exhibits and special programming. After touring the Museum, visit the onsite Café des Beaux-Arts to relax and enjoy a cup of tea. The Flagler Museum is open from 12pm to 5pm on Sundays, and 10am to 5pm Tuesday through Saturday. Admissions are $18 for adults, $10 for youth (13-18), $3 for children (6-12), and free for children under 6 years of age. Audio tours, self-guided tours and Docent-led tours are all available of Whitehall.
