Popular with both locals and tourists, the Flecker Botanical Gardens is the only wet tropics type of garden in Australia. Located approximately five kilometers from the heart of Cairns, the main garden resembles a tropical rainforest’s wild and casual style.

The Flecker Botanical Gardens contain a vast array of species with an impressive array of orchids and carnivorous plants. Visitors will be welcomed by a large collection of tall trees, orchids, ferns, bromeliads and 100 species of palms including supporting lianas.

Many nooks and corners are available for you to sit in and indulge in an afternoon nap. Adjacent to the gardens are the Centenary Lakes which offer visitors a truly tropical experience.

Picnic grounds are available for families as well. In the garden, a restaurant, as well as an exquisite al fresco coffee shop is open for breakfast or lunch.

The restaurant is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A book shop and an informative centre are also available. Self-guide books can be purchased as well as informative leaflets to guide visitors around the gardens.

The Flecker Botanical Gardens are open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free at the Botanical Gardens with collection boxes available for donations which assist with the gardens’ maintenance.
