Getting to the Florida Keys without a lot of time in traffic on bridges is best done by a flight into Florida Keys Marathon Airport. Originally built for use by the Navy, the airport has since switched to operating only as a public facility, without any military flights scheduled. Most of the flights from the airport, before the tourist boom in The Florida Keys, was merely general recreational aviation. After such a rush of visitors to the Keys, however, the airport switched to more flights for visitors flying into town on regional jets and turboprops.

Continental and Delta offer flights, with Continental flying to and from Fort Myers. The airport's charter flights are mainly operated by AirStar and SeaCoast. At least one commercial flight occurs daily during the on-season. Technically, Continental's service is actually provided by Cape Air.

Still, there is no quicker way of getting from south Florida to the Keys, and with a recently renovated terminal and easy and convenient shuttle service, as well as ample taxis and on-site car rental agencies, the airport is slowly growing along with the cities it serves.

A number of hotels are close to the airport, including The Siesta Motel, The Marathon Hotel and Marina, and The Reef at Marathon Resort.
