Located on the University of Florida Gainesville campus, the Florida Museum of Natural History permanent public exhibits focus on the plants, animals, ecosystems, fossils and native peoples of the state Florida. The museum was founded in 1891 and was founded as the state's official natural history museum by the Florida Legislature in 1917. Exhibits are designed to delight youngsters and adults alike, with a focus on re-creating natural habitats.

Highlights include the Mangrove Boardwalk Gallery, where guests stroll on a wooden boardwalk into a full-scale re-creation of a southwest Florida mangrove forest and sea grass estuary. The Butterfly Rainforest exhibit allows visitors to interact with thousands of live butterflies from around the world. The Amazon Voyage exhibit transports visitors to the deep jungles of South America. The Museum is open all year, everyday, except for Thanksgiving and Christmas, 10am to 5pm, and opening three hours later on Sundays. Cameras and video cameras are allowed, and all exhibits are wheelchair accessible. Parking is $3, but free on weekends and State holidays. Admission varies between $9 to $14, but is free for the permanent exhibits and children pay half price.
