The Folklore Open Air Museum in Klagenfurt is the oldest of its kind in Austria. Village-like in appearance, these open-air museums are scattered around Austria, Germany and throughout Europe depicting the rural traditions and folk culture of the country’s early inhabitants.

Situated in a four-acre site in Maria Saal village, Folklore Open Air Museum follows the layout of an old town with houses and different structures laid out in different yards. Visitors can walk among farmhouses, rice granaries, flourmills and stables within the complex to experience authentic traditional living in Austria’s countryside.

The open-air museum is about 8 kilometres away from Klagenfurt’s city centre. Klagenfurt is a charming old Austrian city near the borders of Slovenia and is the capital of the Carinthian state. Its historic district boasts well restored Renaissance buildings tucked within courtyards.
