For many die-hard Pittsburgh Pirates fans, there is no other home for the team than its former stadium, Forbes Field. Opened in 1909, the stadium was home to many an exciting baseball game, including some serious historic moments for the team, until it was demolished in the 1970s.

In addition to housing the Pirates, Forbes Field was also the home of the local NFL football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. The stadium was seen as a source of good luck for both teams, with the Pirates winning three World Series there.

While the park has been long gone, for fans, the space is still hallowed ground. Each year, Pirates games get together on October 13 and listen to the tape from the final game of the World Series in 1960, while gathered on the spot where the winning run was scored. Hundreds and hundreds of fans have been known to gather for this event, making it a national holiday of sorts.

Located close to downtown Pittsburgh, Forbes Field is near many hotels, including
the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh University Center, the Wyndham Garden Hotel, and the Quality Inn University Center.
