In Chicago's bustling theater district, the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre is a major hit with locals and visitors alike. The Oriental Theatre is located at 24 West Randolph Street in the Loop area of downtown Chicago.

The Oriental Theatre was originally built as a movie palace, typical of trends during the 1920s when such buildings were the peak or modern technological innovation. The theater continued being a major attraction well into the 1960s, however by the 1970s the entire neighborhood had begun to be hit by sagging business and decay. By 1981 the building was left vacant and closed, remaining so for the following ten years or more. By 1998, however, an ambitious restoration project was finished and the theater was reopened to the public, with an improved seating capacity of 2,253 people and an emphasis on the performing arts rather than movies. The Oriental Theatre is currently under the management of Broadway in Chicago, and public tours of the theater can be had (along with other prominent Chicago theaters) every Saturday morning at 11am.
