Located at 150 South Royal Street in Mobile, Alabama, the Fort Conde Museum is operated by the Museum of Mobile and located inside of a reconstructed historic French fort. The original fort, built in 1724 and used for many years by French garrisons in the southern US, is one of the most important historic landmarks in the city.

The museum offers musket and cannon firing demonstrations and there are tours given by guides dressed in historic-recreation costumes. Admission to the museum is free of charge, and the official Mobile Welcome Center happens to share the grounds with the museum. The original fort was larger than the present reconstruction, which only occupies 1/3 of the original surface and is built at a 4/5 scale in terms of height. Learn more about this fascinating destination by reading its Wikipedia entry, at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Conde.

In the surrounding area of Mobile along the waterfront, visitors will be sure to find many different places to find accommodations for the night, such as at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel, the PCH Hotel, and the Battle House Hotel.
