Aberdeen Airport

Hotels near Aberdeen Airport, Aberdeen, United Kingdom .

Aberdeen Airport (ABZ) is 9 km northwest of Aberdeen proper, located instead in the city of Dyce. Aberdeen Airport is the second busiest in Scotland, with over three million passengers passing through each year. The airport also has the unusual status of serving as the UK’s main base for its offshore oil industry; three of the airport terminals are assigned to North Sea helicopter use. It is the world’s busiest commercial airport. Day or night, the airport is quite safe.

Plans are underway to completely renovate and modernize the airport, making it far more spacious and comfortable for passengers. The runways will be extended even farther, to permit flights from North America and North Africa. All told, the projects will cost over 26 million pounds.

The airport is served by all the UK and Irish airlines as well as SAS, Air France, KLM, and Cimber Air.

Ground transportation is excellent. Aberdeen’s city center is fifteen minutes away. All major rental car companies are represented. In addition, modern rail is a very short taxi ride away and an ‘Anytime’ train ticket then costs only 1.8 pounds. Bus service is available from two separate operators though both sets of bus routes are decreased on nights and weekends, so bear that in mind. A taxi ride charge to the heart of Aberdeen should be approximately 16 pounds.

There are two hotels actually on the airport proper. The Speedbird Inn and Thistle Aberdeen Airport Hotel with rates from 80 dollars a night. Four km away from the airport, there is a higher priced but well thought of, Marriott Aberdeen.

If time permits, there are several lovely castles to explore in Aberdeen and its environs. The Kinnaird Head Castle built in the 15th century, or Castle Fraser with its ‘Z’ plan construction—these are just a few of the fascinating sights in Aberdeen.

If city life is more to your taste, enjoy the night life of Aberdeen’s many great pubs and restaurants. If walking the street at night, use common sense, and tourists should probably avoid the area around Union Street.
