Fort Edmonton Park, the largest living history museum in Canada, is located in the scenic river valley of Edmonton and was opened in 1974, though plans were hatched for the site far earlier. In 1915, after the remains of the original Fort Edmonton were demolished, interest for preserving the heritage of the place was already mounting. The Fort Edmonton Foundation oversaw the extensive revamping of the site, which features four main sections and is a major tourist destination in the Edmonton region.

The Fort of the Fur Trade Era section covers the years 1795-1859 and features a replica of the original fort. On the grounds of the fort are an Aboriginal Camp, a replica York boat, the Trade Store and the Rowand House, a replica of the impressive building which was one of the largest houses in Canada at the time of its construction. The Settlement Era of 1871-1891 has a replica of the old Jasper House Hotel as well as the MacDougall Methodist Church. The Municipal Era section covers the years 1892-1914 and features Tent City and a vintage streetcar. The Metropolitan Era, 1914-1929, covers the Edmonton area during the First World War with its key destination Mellon Farm and other exhibits.

During the summer months, staff members in period costume help bring the fort park to life. The park is open at different times every month of the year. Admission is $6.75 for children under 12, $10.25 for children 13-17 and seniors and $13.50 for adults. Group and family packages are available. Extra fees apply for wagon tours. Parking in the fort park area is available.
