The Fort Mose Historic State Park, located two miles north of the historic city of St. Augustine, Florida, is in itself a historic landmark. It was the site of the first legally sanctioned free black settlement in the future United States, during the time when Florida was still under Spanish rule. As such, it is considered an earlier predecessor to the Underground Railroad. Today, because of its interesting past distinctions, the park finds itself not only a member of the Florida State Park system, but also listed on the U.S. National Historic Landmark registry. Visitors to the park can enjoy picnic pavilions, boardwalks, group tours, and history of Fort Mose programs led by park rangers, scheduled on Saturday mornings at 11 AM.

The visitor center welcomes people from Thursday through Monday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, and the park grounds are open from 8 AM to sundown every day. Admission is $4 per vehicle (limit 8 people), and $2 for pedestrians.
