The Fort Worth Zoo has the distinguished honor of being the oldest zoo in the entire state of Texas. Founded in 1909, it contained only a few animals including an alligator and two bear cubs as well as a couple of rabbits. Today, of course, the Fort Worth Zoo has expanded significantly and you can now find animals from all over the world. The zoo has 15 permanent exhibitions including Texas Wild! in which you’ll find seven different exhibits in an 8 acre complex, among which is a petting corral and playbarn. Other features include the World of Primates, Flamingo Bay, Meerkat Mounds, Parrot Paradise, Great Barrier Reef and Penguins. The zoo is open 365 days a year. Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for children (ages 3-12) and $9 for seniors.
