For a more creative museum, locals and travelers alike flock to Franklin Court, a free museum run by the National Park Service that focuses on engaging and interactive activities that keep children and their parents enthused and occupied. Free to everyone, Franklin Court opened in the 1970s, and has grown since then to include the grounds of the former residence of Benjamin Franklin, as well as a more contemporary building designed by famous architect Robert Venturi.

The museum is a combination of artifacts from Franklin's original house, as well as a gallery with portraits and furniture saved from that time period. There's also a brief history of his career, but most people flock to the invention room, where it's possible to play with some of his inventions, or see them in action. There's also a part of the museum dedicated to explaining how the printing press worked in the 1700s.

The Franklin Court is open Monday through Saturday, from nine until five. None of the buildings are open on Sundays. Some of the closest hotels are The Omni Hotel Independence Park and The Best Western Independence Park Inn.
