Perhaps the most scenic and most popular part of Columbus, Ohio's network of parks is The Franklin Park Conservatory. Part conservatory and part botanical garden, the building itself is worth a visit. Part of the United States National Register of Historic Places, the conservatory's most famous building was built in 1895, influenced in part by The Chicago's World Fair and Columbian Exposition. Modeled after a building called The Glass Palace, the building today houses all a number of the tropical plants in the vast exotic plant collection.

The Franklin Park Conservatory is host to a number of different workshops and classes for horticultural buffs and schoolchildren alike. With over 88 acres of plants from all over the world, there's something exciting for everyone. More than 400 species of plants grow and flourish here, and a number of special events are planned around their annual blossoming, including The Orchid Forest. Other special yearly events include Holidays at the Conservatory and Blooms and Butterflies.

Today, in addition to serving as a welcome break from city life, as well as an exciting place for visitors, The Franklin Park Conservatory is also a very popular location for weddings and other regal events. Open weekly, except on Thanksgiving and Christmas, The Franklin Park Conservatory's daily hours are ten until five, except on Wednesdays, when it's open until eight in the evening.
