Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park is the second largest military park in the entire world and commemorates four major battles of the Civil War. The Battle of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House, the Battle of Fredericksburg and the Battle of Chancellorsville are all represented here. The bloodiest battle site on the continent, the park also includes historic buildings like Chancellor House, Chatham Manor and Salem Church. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.

Commemorating the Battle of Fredericksburg – the greatest Union defeat – are many exhibits, movies and a walking and driving tour. The visitor center is open 9-5 on weekdays and 9-6 on weekends.

The Chancellorsville site commemorates the greatest victory of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. The Chancellorsville Battle Visitor Center is located at 9001 Plank Road, open 9-5 weekdays and 9-6 weekends.

Though not equipped with a visitor center, the Battle of the Wilderness was the bloodiest event of the Civil War. Walking trails direct visitors to notable sites. The Spotsylvania Court House was where the battle ended. Ellwood Manor on the grounds served as a field hospital for months following the battles.
