Located on the premises of the city's old Town Hall and Market Square, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, visitors will find the intriguing and educational Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center. The establishment was founded in the early 1980s when the local municipal government moved into a newer building, at which point a group of community leaders banded together to help preserve the historic space and use it as a center for local history and cultural events.

The museum is located at 907 Princess Anne Street, right next to the St. George's Episcopal Church. The museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums as of 1995, and regularly offers area school children free educational programs and tours. Among the exhibits on display currently (Fall of 2009), the "George Washington and the Masonic Tradition" and the "British Heritage, American Style" exhibits are quite popular.

The museum is open, except for major holidays, at the following hours: from December through February, from 12pm-4pm except Sundays, which are from 1pm-4pm (during these months the museum is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays). From March through November, the museum is open 12pm-5pm except Sundays, from 1pm-5pm (and is again closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
