The stadium is home to three regular tenants – two from rugby union teams Free State Cheetahs and Central Cheetas and one soccer team Bloemfontein Celtic.

The Free State Stadium is host to the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and is one of the venues for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It is already set to host 5 first-round matches from June 14, 2010 to June 25, 2010 and 1 second-round match on June 27, 2010 of the 2010 World Cup.
