Freedom Tower

Hotels near Freedom Tower, Miami, United States .

The Freedom Tower in Miami, aka the Miami Freedom Tower, was built in 1925 when it served as the main headquarters for the Miami Daily News and Metropolis until 1957. The design of the tower was supposedly inspired by the Giralda Tower in Seville, Spain. From 1962-1974 the tower served as an immigration station for Cuban refugees who flooded the country after Castro’s regime took power. Afterwards, the Freedom Tower was shut down in the mid-70’s. It was renovated in 1997 after years of disrepair and neglect did their damage. Today the tower serves as a monument to Cuban Americans who fled their country in search of freedom. The first floor contains a museum which details boat lifts and life in Cuba pre and post Castro. There’s also a library housing an extensive collection of émigré literature. The rooftop is the site of many events and conferences.
