Abruzzo Airport (PSR) is situated 4km from the center of the city of Pescara Italy. Though not a large airport, it has undergone serious renovation in the last ten years to expand capacity for its increasing flights and multiple airline providers. During this time passenger volume has grown six fold to 400,000 passengers a year. It recently hosted travelers from all over the Mediterranean who came to participate in the XVI Mediterranean Games.

This airport is the central base of airlines On Air and ItAli. Other domestic Italian airlines include Abruzzo Airport in their routes as does Ireland’s Ryanair, Ukraine International, Brussels Airlines, and Belle Air, an airline based out of Albania.

Abruzzo Airport is officially within the city limits of Pescara, the capital of the province of the same name. Pescara has the largest population of the entire Abruzzo region of Italy where this city sits along the Adriatic coast. Some insist the airport actually straddles both Pescara and the smaller town of San Giovanni Teatino, a town which resides in a separate province of Chieti. This saddle location is described as ‘Strada Statale Tiburtina’ (To add to the confusion Abruzzo Airport is sometimes unofficially referred to as Pescara Airport!)

There are several bus lines, departing from both the airport and the more centralized train station. Pescara has one of the largest train systems in all of Europe easily reached by bus which leaves the airport every fifteen minutes. It is one Euro by bus to the city center and the train station; fifteen Euro by taxi. There are seasonal hydrofoils and ferries to Croatia and other destinations.
Because the airport is so close to city center of Pescara, staying at city center is your best bet. General rates range from 62 €- 103 € (90-150 US dollars) though bookings are hard to come by in July when the Pescara jazz festival, one of Europe’s most popular, is in full swing. Some reliable places include both Best Western Plaza and Best Western Hotel Duca D'aosta, Ambra Palace, Alba, Sporting Villa Maria, and Hotel Victoria.
