This station is located in the Fresno downtown area and while it looks like an old-fashioned train station, it was renovated nine times since it was first opened in 1908. In 2005 a $6 million restoration project restored the station to its original appearance. Fresno Amtrak Station features a waiting room, shops and is open from 5:30am to 9:30pm, and also offers quik-trak ticketing machines and baggage check-in and assistance.

More than 270,000 passengers board and alight at this station, which is a stop on the San Joaquin lines, which runs multiple times daily between the San Francisco Bay Area (or Sacramento) and Bakersfield, where Thruway motor coaches connect visitors to Southern California destinations. Other stops along the route include Stockton, Modesto, Merced, Martinez and Fresno. Special Amtrak services connect visitors directly to Yosemite National Park. There is ample unattended free parking adjacent to station.

Fresno itself offers the bustle of a university town, and cultural offerings connected to the University of California, Fresno, can be taken in by visitors and residents alike.
