The Absecon Lighthouse, dating back to 1857, is a historic lighthouse located in Atlantic City at Absecon Inlet. New Jersey’s tallest lighthouse -- and the third tallest in the U.S. -- the Absecon Lighthouse is no longer used for nautical purposes, but is open to visitors who wish to climb the 228 steps to the top. It is registered on the National Register of Historic Places. The lighthouse is open from 10 am to 5 pm during July and August (closed holidays) and from 11 am to 4 pm Thursdays through Mondays during the months of September through June. Admission to climb the lighthouse is $7 for adults, $4 for children 4-12. Children under 3 enter free, along with active military members. Dogs are welcome in the lighthouse. Numerous events take place throughout the year, including concerts, reenactments, exhibits and presentations. Located at Pacific and Rhode Island Avenues, parking is available.
