The Friendship Bridge is an international bridge that connects the countries of Brazil and Paraguay, a few miles upstream along the Paraná River from the mega-tourist attraction of the Iguazu Falls, lying in the Triple Border region between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. On the eastern side of the Friendship Bridge is the Brazilian city of Foz de Iguaçu, while on the western side of the bridge is the Paraguayan city of Ciudad del Este; the bridge itself is enormously important to the economies of both sides, and particularly to that of Paraguay which receives a large portion of its international imports via this route.

The Friendship Bridge was inaugurated in 1965 and has brought communities on either side of the Paraná River closer together. Due to the bridge's significant economic impact, the Paraguayan city of Ciudad del Este has become the second largest urban area in the country, and is given a special free trade status within the nation. The bridge extends to a total length of a little over 1,800 feet and is built in a traditional arch form, with the main arch spanning some 950 feet in total.
