Frisco is a small town big on history, located in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, and the Frisco Historic Park celebrates its colorful past. The town was founded in 1873 (officially chartered in 1879) and quickly grew due to the many nearby mines. In 1983, the Frisco Historical Society and the Town of Frisco officially dedicated the museum, opened the schoolhouse and park to the public, and successfully listed the schoolhouse on the National Register of Historic Places. The exhibits are fun and interactive, encouraging families to explore a forgotten part of the Wild West. Children can learn what it was like to be a pupil in the 1800s in a one-room school house, and the saloon and jail give hints at the rough start of the town. The Park also features exhibits on the Ute Indians, the first inhabitants of this area. The museum gives educational lectures, guided hikes and tours. While the town, with under 3,000 residents, is sleepy in the summer, it is a popular winters sports destination due to nearby Copper Mountain, only six miles away.

The museum charges no admission, but donations are appreciated. The park is closed on Mondays. From May to September the summer hours are Tuesday to Saturday:9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Sundays - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. In winter, the park opens an hour later and closes an hour earlier.
