Frogner Park
The Frogner Park is a public park located in the west-end borough of Frogner in the Norwegian capital of Oslo. Frognerparken is the biggest park in the central part of Oslo. It is a popular recreational area for both its neighbors and people from other parts of Oslo.
Frognerparken is one of the most visited parks in Oslo, mainly because of its large green areas, relaxed atmosphere and short distance to the city centre. It is also a favorite destination for tourists visiting the city. Visitors may enjoy more than 150 different types of roses as Frognerparken has Norway's biggest collection of roses, a total of 14,000 plants of 150 different species.
The park is also famous for housing the Vigeland Sculpture Park, which was created by Gustav Vigeland in the 20th century. The 212 sculptures in the park are, mainly, the adult work of Vigeland. The massive works represent various ages, moods, and stages in lives of people culminating in the famous Monolith with its 121 figures struggling to reach the top of the sculpture.
The Frogner Park also offers various leisure areas such as the Frogner Stadium and Frogner Open-Air Bath located in one corner of the park, towards Majorstua. In the corner by Frogner plass, tourists find the Frogner Manor House and Oslo City Museum. In Frognerparken a summer-open café and a restaurant are also available. For the youngest, Norway's biggest playground is located between the main gates and the Frogner Manor House.
The park is open every day all year round and on a nice summer day, the park is full of people. Visitors can go for a run, walk the dog, have a picnic or barbecue, play badminton or just do some sunbathing. During the snowy winter months, cross country skiing is one of the activities visitors may engage in.
