Frölundaborg

Frölundaborg is an indoor arena located in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is mostly used for ice hockey as it is home to Frölunda HC. The facility is located in the area Castle Forest Wallen sports center. The hall can accommodate in the stands 2 670 seated and standing 5 000 people standing. It was inaugurated on September 12, 1967 to approximately 8.000 spectators in a friendly match with Vastra Frolunda IF beating Swedish ice hockey team with 4-3.

Besides ice hockey matches, the facility hosts figure skating and public skating events. Moreover, even fairs, music concerts and other major events, such as SM-finals in handball, occur here. Attendance record for Frölundaborg was set on January 18, 1970 when 10 244 spectators watched the match between Vastra Frolunda and IF Leksands IF (2-3) in the SM series of ice hockey.
Frölundaborg cost 6.3 million SEK to build in 1967 and since then 4.9 million SEK has been invested in the facility which was valued to 3.7 million SEK in the beginning of 2006. The arena changed owners in February 2006 and on September 12, 2007, the Gothenburg municipality decided to expand Frölundaborg to Campus Frölunda, a facility which is expected to take 7-8,000 more spectators. The first phase should have been finished in March 2008, but it was entirely finished to the spring of 2009. On 11 August 2009, the Frölunda Indians played their first friendly match at the rebuilt hall against Djurgårdens IF in front of 5283 spectators. The match was won by Frölunda 4-0. The total cost of the renovation was about 100 million SEK.
