Gaasperplas Metro Station

Gaasperplas is one of the Amsterdam subway stations, located in the suburb of Amsterdam Zuidoost. The above-ground subway station opened on October the16th, 1977 and is part of Gaasperplas line 53. Gaasperplas Metro station is the least crowded of line 53 with a number of only 3,000 passengers per day.

Gaasper Camp, one of the three urban sites in Amsterdam, located within walking distance. On the platform and the station walls there are some Gaasperplas colored brick sculptures in the form of bags, suitcases and other luggage items. This coastal work was produced in 1978 by Antoine Mes.
The closest airports to the station are: Schiphol and Rotterdam Airport and the most popular area for visitors as well as locals is the Pepsi Stage. The name of the station comes from the nearby lake Gaasperplas. Directly east of the station is the access area to this pool built around Gaasperpark. This park was the site of the 1982 Floriade. The former planetarium next to the entrance of the park is now used as a conference office. Two other underground railway stations in the neighborhood are: Metro Station Gein and Metro Reigersbos. Station Amsterdam Bijlmer and Station Diemen-Zuid are also available nearby, within a 3 km distance away. A very nice arena gathering hundreds of people at special events is the Heineken Music Hall.
