An airport in the midst of makeover, Gainesville Regional Airport is doing its best to improve the passenger experience. The airport used to be known as the J.R. Alison Airport and opened in 1940 and was used as by the Army Air Forces in World War II. Currently it is renovating its main terminal to include passenger boarding bridges and covered walkways from the terminal to the aircraft. Delta Connection/ASA and US Airways Express/PSA provide service from Gainesville Regional Airport, connecting to Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina. From these hubs, over 1000 world destinations can be reached, making Gainesville a convenient choice for the tourist, business traveler or student.

The airport provides free wireless internet service, a business office that offers fax and photocopy service for a nominal fee and dining options. Long term parking costs $9 per day and Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National all have rental counters at the airport. Downtown Gainesville is less than 10 miles away, but there are few public transport options, however, many taxi and car services are available.
