The contemporary Galveston Arts Center, temporarily located at 2501 Market Street, Galveston, Texas, while its permanent home is under renovation, was incorporated in 1986 as an independent nonprofit. Admission is always free, and visitors can take in the approximately 25 rotating exhibits a year guided by the museum's full-time staff. Community art outreach programs vary from ones geared towards children undergoing extended stays in hospitals, to older people living in nursing homes. The ArtWalk, which happens every 6 to 8 weeks in the city's historic district, is a showcase for regional artists and craft makers. Proceeds from the museum's shop benefit local artists as well as the center.

Hours of operation run from Wednesday through Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm, with the museum closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
