Gamble Plantation Historic State Park is located in Ellenton, Florida. It has the distinction of being the only surviving antebellum mansion/plantation house in all of South Florida. This sugar plantation mansion was home to Major Robert Gamble and according to local legend, Confederate Secretary of State, Judah Benjamin was supposed to have sought refuge there after the war. The mansion is still furnished in its original 19th century style. Tours are offered but require reservations beforehand. The park and mansion are open from 8am till sundown 365 days a year. The visitor center is open from 9am-5pm Thursday through Monday. The center is closed on all major holidays. There are no entrance fees however tours cost $6 per adult and $4 per child.
