Mid-way between Dodge City and the Colorado State line, the Garden City Regional Airport (GCK) is a public airport serving the general and commercial aviation needs of southwest Kansas. Opened in 1942, the airport was originally Garden City Army Airfield, a training center for fighter pilots of the British Royal Air Force, and later the US Army Air Forces. Upon the closing of the Garden City Army Airfield in 1947, the twin runways and base facility were converted into a public airport.

While the majority of the air traffic through Garden City Regional Airport is related to general aviation, the airport is served by Great Lakes Airlines on a commercial basis. Regular service is available to Denver International Airport and Kansas City International Airport, with additional service to Salina, Kansas, on occasion. The airport handles approximately 20,000 flights per year, including the five daily commercial arrivals and departures.

The Garden City Regional Airport is located at 2225 South Air Service Road in Garden City, Kansas, just a few miles southeast of downtown Garden City. Parking is available on-site; free of charge, and Enterprise and Hertz rental car agencies both have rental desks at the terminal.
