The Garfield Park Conservatory, known by many as “landscape art under glass,” lies on 4.5 acres in the East Garfield Park neighborhood in the west side of Chicago. Designed by William LeBaron Jenney, the first segment opened in 1874. Jenney derived much of his influence from French parks and boulevards, which he incorporated into his landscape designs. The park features remarkable plants, such as 300-year-old ferns, as well as ones that are grown there specifically to be transplanted other places in Chicago.

Popular events include the Summer Tropical Flower Show, and the family-friendly Little Green Thumb Wednesdays. The park hosts numerous gardening workshops, and while conservatory admission is free, a donation is suggested during workshops and events. The conservatory is wheelchair-accessible, and there is free parking on site. Rooms are also available for events. Daily hours run from 9 am to 5 pm, and go until 8 pm on Wednesdays.
