Located in the middle of the 136-acre Garfield Park in the southern area of Indianapolis, Indiana, the Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden is located at 2450 Shelby Street, occupying a total of 10,000 square feet in the middle of the park. The gently rolling grounds are elegantly landscaped and include charming little limestone bridges throughout, and the welded aluminum and glass conservatory building is very unique in appearance, having been the first such structure of its kind in the country. The site has been added to the National Register of Historic Places due to its significance in the area and popularity among national and international visitors.

The facilities include several different displays such as a miniature Amazon River rainforest area, an artificial 15-foot waterfall, a section of bonsai trees, and a generous and widely dispersed collection of rare bromeliads, orchids and epiphytes. During the summer months, the gardens serve as the venue for various musical functions, known as the yearly Music in the Garden cycle. Furthermore, there are regular weddings hosted at the site, although other private events are not permitted. The facilities are open every day of the year and admission is charged at a mere $1. The hours of operation of the conservatory building are 10am-5pm Mondays through Saturdays and 1pm-5pm on Sundays, while the gardens are open 10am-10pm daily during summer months and 10am-5pm during winter months.
