Gelredome

Gelredome is a football stadium in Arnhem, Netherlands. It is the home stadium of Vitesse Football Club. Since the 80s there were plans to build a new stadium for Vitesse, which was playing still in Monnikenhuize. It would however take until 1996 before work began on the building. On July 12, 1996 was the first pole in the ground beaten in a meadow at the Batavierenweg, south of the Rhine. On the same day, the official name for the next complex presented: Gelredome. On March 25, 1998, the 29,600 seat stadium was inaugurated. Shortly thereafter Vitesse played his first game against NAC Breda 4-1. In the eighteen league matches which followed it, the Arnhem club remained unbeaten. The first season average was 21,000 spectators per game, against 8,000 in the previous stadium. These numbers were in the following years further on, to 24,000 in 2000.The original plans for the sports were never fully developed. The main reason for this is that both the financial crisis and the Gelredome Vitesse fall under an independent board) at the beginning of the millennium.
At the time it was opened, the Gelredome was one of the most modern stadiums in the world. The roof consists of two huge domes which if required can be opened or closed. Together with the Amsterdam ArenA it was the only stadiums in the Benelux where the roof open. Another feature is the sliding field.
The Gelredome hosts regular major concerts and other events as: U2, Madonna, and the Symphonica in Rosso concert of Marco Borsato and Paul de Leeuw. In addition, there are many annual events, including dances Qlimax (every fourth week in November), Hard Bass (each year in February), Dance 4 Life (every second week in November) and the Giga Piratenfestijn (every fourth week December
