The General Francisco Javier Mina International Airport, also known as the Tampico International Airport, is a Mexican international airport, located in Tampico, Tamaulipas. Important in the history of Mexican commercial aviation, Tampico Airport is where Mexicana de Aviación, Mexico's first commercial airline, made its first flight in 1921. Handling air traffic for Tampico, Ciudad Madero and Altamira, this three-runway airport is serviced by commercial carriers Aeroméxico Connect, Mexicana Continental Airlines, Interjet, and Aeromar. Daily flights travel to and from Monterrey, Veracruz, Mexico City and Houston. Once on the ground the airport terminal offers many services and amenities, including ATMs, book & magazine sellers, clothing and accessory shops, duty free, gift shops, local crafts and souvenirs, a snack bar, and the Aerocafe restaurant open from 6am to 10pm daily. Ground transportation is offered from rental car operators Alamo, Auto Rentas Rayto, Avis, Budget, Hertz and Thrifty, as well as from authorized taxi and van services. Parking is available onsite for $20 (Mexican Pesos) per hour, with a daily maximum of $150, and may be paid in cash or with Visa or Master Card. The airport is, and has been operated by OMA, or Operadora Mexicana de Aeropuertos, since May of 2000.

Located in the coastal zone of the state of Tamaulipas, Tampico is next to the Gulf of Mexico, and is an important center of commerce, service, industry, and the oil and fishing trades. Visitors head to Tampico to visit the Port of Tampico the Port of Altamira, to fish on the many lagoons and rivers or out in the open sea, to golf, and visit water parks, theme parks, and an area natural reserve.
