Geno’s Steaks was founded in 1966 by Joe Vento and specializes in cheesesteaks, a signature dish of Philadelphia. The restaurant is located in the South Philadelphia neighborhood of the city and is right across the street from rivals Pat’s King of Steaks.

The name was supposedly chosen because Joe’s Steak Place had already been claimed by another business. Vento, eventually named his own son Geno, who has followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the family business.
