The George Washington Masonic National Memorial is a monument to the first U.S. President (who was also a Mason) and is based on the Lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt. Located in Alexandria, Virginia, the memorial is unique in that it is supported by all 52 Masonic lodges in the U.S., the only of its kind. The imposing 10-floor monument was finished in 1932, having been built entirely with donated funds. In summer (April 1 through September 30) the memorial is open from 9 AM to 4 PM. Winter hours are 10 AM to 4 PM (October 1 through March 31). Admission and parking are free, as well as four guided tours which begin at 10 AM. Nearby accommodations are the Embassy Suites Alexandria-Old Town and the Westin Alexandria on Courthouse Square.
