The Georgia Historical Society, which makes its home in Georgia's oldest city, Savannah, possesses as its mission the collection and preservation of the state's long and interesting history for the present and future enjoyment and education of its citizens. The library can be found in Hodgson Hall, and besides its beautiful facade and interior, it also boasts an impressive collection of books, manuscripts, and other paraphernalia. Included are 24,000 architectural drawings, 90,000 photographs, and 15,000 rare books. The Society created the well-known Georgia Historical Marker Program during the latter 1900s, and has erected numerous markers designating important sites around the state. In order to keep concerned citizens and members up to date on the latest activities of the Georgia Historical Society, the Georgia Historical Quarterly has been sent out since 1917.
