Georgia State Capitol

Hotels near Georgia State Capitol, Atlanta (Georgia), United States .

Located in Atlanta, the Georgia State Capitol was constructed as a symbol of the “New South” following the Civil War. The building itself was designed by Willoughby J. Edbrooke and Franklin P. Burnham to resemble the architectural styles of the United States Capitol. Construction was completed in 1889. Its beautiful central dome, stone pediments and oak paneling render the building a sight to see.

The Georgia State Capitol is both the working center of Georgia’s government and a prime historical landmark visited by tourists and locals year-round. Guided tours of the building are offered Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Those not wishing to participate in a tour are welcome to visit the building during open hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visitors may also want to stop by the Georgia State Capitol Museum, a public educational institution that seeks to preserve the history of the Georgia State Capitol building and Atlanta itself.

Located conveniently in the heart of Atlanta, the Georgia State Capitol is also surrounded by hotels and living accommodations for those wishing to visit. The list of locations available is a long one, and includes the Hampton Inn & Suites, the Holiday Inn and the Glenn Hotel.

Those in search of more information regarding visiting the Georgia State Capitol should take a look at the Georgia Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.georgia.gov.
