The German Woods of Curitiba occupy some 38,000 square meters and were originally part of the Schaeffer farm, the land of a prominent German family. Today the woods serve as a monument to German immigration in Brazil.

Inside is a replica of the church formerly located in Seminario (dating from 1933). Its neo-gothic style is among its signature elements. Within is a concert space called Bach’s Oratorium. Also inside the German Woods are the Hansel and Gretel House and the Philosopher’s Tower. Along the pathways one of the classic Grimm Brothers’ tales is told. The Philosopher’s Tower is an observatory with views to different parts of Curitiba. The German Poetry Square is a reproduction of Casa Mila, built by Germans in the city in the early 1900s.

About three miles from the German Woods are many excellent options in accommodations for tourists. Bristol Flexy Centro Civico (Rua Dep Mario Barros 1158) is a cozy spot surrounded by trees.
