Ginza

Hotels near Ginza, Tokyo, Japan .

For an unforgettable shopping experience nothing beats Ginza. This is the famous Tokyo shopping district that is crammed full of boutiques, restaurants, bars and entertainment centers. In this shopping district, one can enjoy some of the best nightclubs, cafes and art galleries Tokyo has to offer. This also one of the most expensive areas in Japan, with one square meter of land in the center worth more than ten million yen. The Ginza shopping district grew to what it is today after the rebuilding efforts made after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923.

Shopping and entertainment are big in Ginza, not to mention fine dining. This is the place for $10 cups of coffee. The biggest names in global fashion all have their stores here. During the weekends, the place becomes a giant outdoor shopping mall because Chuo Dori, the main thoroughfare is closed to vehicles and becomes a pedestrian’s playground. This happens every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from April to September.

The Ginza Wako is a landmark Ginza building where one can buy jewelry. For electronics, one can head to the Sony Center, which sells the latest Sony products from DVD players to phones. Large department stores also abound. The Kabukiza Theater is another place to go not for shopping but for a little bit of Japanese culture: Kabuki pieces are performed here all year round.

Accommodations in Ginza are not hard to find. One can try the Hotel Seiyo Ginza, which lies at the heart of the shopping district. Other options include the Dai-ichi hotel, Hotel Monterey, Park Hotel, Hotel New Hankyu, Mercure Hotel Ginza, and the Peninsula.
