Giulesti-Valentin Stanescu Stadium

Giulesti-Valentin Stanescu Stadium is a football stadium located in Bucharest, Romania. It is the official home stadium of football club Rapid Bucharest. The construction began in 1936 under the management of the architect Dumitrescu and under the patronage of cultural and sporting CFR Association. 2 years later construction was completed, giving the team a smaller copy of the Arsenal’s "Horseshoe" in London. It was officially inaugurated on June 10, 1939, on the event Ceferiada in order to mark the 70th anniversary of the release of the first train in Romania. At that time, Rapid had one of the largest and most modern arenas in the country with a capacity of 12,160 seats.

The Horseshoe became only a memory the mid-'80s, when it was high at first only on a metal frame, then a second lawn, practically closing the stadium. The work was completed about 10 years later. The arena can get 19,100 people and is fully equipped with plastic chairs. In 2001, the stadium near the Bridge Grant was named Valentin Stanescu, in memory of former Rapid player and the coach who brought the first title in Giulesti.

The summer of 2003 has been another important milestone in the history of the old arena. The team moved to the "national", leaving the way open to modernization. The turf was changed completely, and its drainage was brought to Western standards. Consequently, on November 14, 2003, Rapid had the best lawn in Romania. The stadium also entered into a complex process of recovery. They began to increase and upgrade the official stand, and the stands were surrounded, instead of the old fence protection, with a transparent plastic which provides excellent visibility, but also a protective measure.

Hotel Antheus is a three star hotel located very near to the town centre and provides excellent accommodation at rates starting from 40 euro.
