Glebe Park is a public park located in Civic, Canberra, Australia. The name was from “glebe” which actually means a land area whose revenues are all allocated towards the parish expenses. The original land was 40 hectares or 100 acres – it was donated to the Anglican Church by Robert Campbell. Reid, considered to be among the oldest suburbs in the city, also received 2 acres as glebe.

Over the years, the creation of buildings and the allocation of land to other purposes shrunk the park into below 1/8 of its original size – only about 4.7 hectares. Still, the additions include the National Convention Centre, a rotunda, a casino, a hotel, and a children’s playground. However, in August 2009, the playground was closed for renovation.

Naturally, the park is the venue to various community activities; these include the German Lantern Walk, parties for special events, and festivals. Glebe Park’s large oak and elm trees are perfect places for picnics or just resting after a hectic shopping or sightseeing activity in nearby locations.
